Responsibilities of the Principal

The College Principal will:

  • Be a member of the College Management Team (CMT)
  • Promote and develop good governance within the College compatible with and supportive of overall College governance structures and policies
  • Lead the strategic development of the College
  • Manage the College budget
  • Work with academic units to represent the College to external stakeholders
  • Lead initiatives, in collaboration with academic units, to attain national and international Visibility/recognition for the College.
  • Lead initiatives across constituent academic units to enhance the experience of staff, students and alumni
  • Work with the Heads of other Colleges to develop inter-College initiatives in research and teaching
  • Diversify the income stream of the College away from traditional sources
  • Support the enhancement of research and research centres and institutes within the College and across Colleges.

Research

The research responsibilities of the Head of College will include.

  1. Coordinating the development and implementation of a research strategy for the College and ensuring that this is consistent with the University research strategy
  2. Implementing University policy on research and innovation
  3. To lead the research centre of the college as per the existing norms, rules and regulation of the university.

Teaching and Learning

Working with the heads of academic units, the responsibilities of the Head of College in relation to the development and enhancement of teaching and learning within the agreed University policies will include:

  1. Liaising closely with relevant senior University officers in developing College academic and teaching and learning strategy in keeping with the overall University strategy
  2. Stimulating an on-going process of enhancement of the quality and standards of all teaching and learning activities
  3. Ensuring the provision of management and support for all academic programmes within the remit of the College
  4. Promoting best practice in the delivery of courses;
  5. Encouraging the development of strategic initiatives in teaching, learning and widening participation.

Financial and Budgetary Management

Each College comprises the academic and research units that are attached to it for the purpose of the allocation of resources. The responsibilities of the Head of College in this area will include:

  1. Allocation of budgets to the academic units, and research centres/institutes within the College in a transparent manner in line with:
    • The strategic imperatives of the University and the College
    • The principles of the Resource Allocation Model(RAM)
    • Key performance indicators;
  2. b. Diversifying the income stream of the College away from traditional sources.

Working with the College Manager, the responsibilities of the Head of College in the area will include:

  1. Leading the establishment, updating and delivery of the College Strategic Plan, in line with the University Strategic Plan;
  2. In collaboration with the relevant University Officers, putting in place College level administrative supports and committees compatible with University structures and policies, to allow the College to function effectively by providing adequate support to the academic and research units;
  3. Promoting the development of internal structures within the College that allow for the evolution and development of the College and its various academic disciplines
  4. Compatible with University policies, developing and implementing a College strategy to recruit and retain the best academic, research, technical and administrative staff;
  5. Working with the Heads of academic and research units to ensure that effective management structures are in place for each unit.

Code of Conduct for Faculty & Staff

The Faculty & Staff are expected to be at their work place during the prescribed working hours. If, for any unavoidable reason, one has to leave the work place, prior written permission should be obtained from the Principal through their HoD.

The Faculty & Staff shall not engage themselves either directly or indirectly in any kind of business, trade activities and in running of educational institution or undertake part time job in other concern, etc.

The Faculty & Staff members shall not involve themselves in activities, not conducive to their work during the working hours.

The Faculty & Staff shall not engage in offering private tuitions. However, in exceptional cases, with prior permission of the Principal, tuitions can be undertaken.

The Faculty & Staff are prohibited from accepting valuable gifts in any form from the students / parents / companies having business transactions with the college.

The details of student feedback forms and self-performance appraisal reports given by the individual to the superior shall be treated as confidential.

Student Related Responsibilities

  1. Working within the University-wide structures to establish, manage and enhance academic, welfare support for students’;
  2. Implementation of University policy on equality and widening participation at the College level;
  3. Helping to ensure the quality of the overall student experience within the College.

Staff Management and Development

  1. Orientation and guidance of staff in the understanding of their role and contribution to the College and the University;
  2. Effective planning and development review, including the management of staff performance and performance reviews;
  3. Support for the professional development of all staff in the College;
  4. Implementation of the University’s Performance Management Policy;
  5. Management of other human resource functions with the support and in consultation with the Human Resources Department – including but not limited to – recruitment, selection, induction, probation, administration, performance management and grievances
  6. Ensuring that the duty of care owed to staff and students is exercised, particularly in relation to the maintenance of a learning/working environment free from bullying, harassment or discriminatory practice.

The Student Code of Conduct supports the College’s mission by outlining students’ rights and responsibilities in addition to defining acceptable behaviours. Conduct certificate will not be issued as a matter of course. It has to be earned by students’ good conduct .In order to help ensure a safe and secure campus environment we ask all visitors, and students to refrain from the following:

  • Using obscene language, obscene gestures, racial, and religious slurs.
  • Engage in political activities, unofficial meetings, strikes, demonstrations, agitations, and fund collection
  • Use of any banner, flag, board, notice, pamphlet or other such materials for purpose of any political activity of student organizations
  • Casual dressing/specially designed / extra colour/special dressing and hair style will not be permitted.
  • Use and Possession of alcoholic drinks or drugs. Using/keeping of these items will lead to immediate expulsion of the student from the college and hostels.
  • Students are not allowed to bring vehicles into the campus. They have to park their vehicles at the allotted place at their own risk.
  • Taking or acquiring possession of any academic material from a college employee or fellow student without permission; receiving or giving help during tests or other assessments of learning is strictly prohibited.

Student's Responsibilities

  1. Students shall cooperate with all such measures including the mode of College Union elections as decided by the College Management and Courts from time to time. Election to the College Union will be conducted under Parliamentary Mode, as per Lyngdoh Committee recommendations, under the verdict of the Hon.ble High Court of Kerala in WPC © No.19411 of 2012,de hors the directions issued by the University.
  2. Students shall wear uniform on the prescribed mode. Students should always keep dignity and decency in dressing. Formal dressing in uniform and normal hair style will be allowed in the campus. Staff members/Discipline Committee shall have the powers to deny admission to students to classes/office/labs/library/meetings/cultural programs and other programs in the case of violation of the dress code of the college.
  3. Students will agree to keep their mobile phones and other electronic devices switched OFF during class times and not use them to record or photograph any person/thing related to College without prior permission.
  4. Students shall always wear identity cards issued by the college with tag and show them as and when demanded by the Principal, teachers and office staff/security staff.
